Local Angst

Strange day in the local blogohood.

First this then this.

I'm proud to say I had nothing to do with any of it. I've been a good boy lately, at least as far as my blog related activities go.

I guess I really don't have much of an opinion on either of the above links other than to say that Typepad is a privately owned business, and they can do whatever they want. This isn't a street corner.

Of all the opinions I have read online about this, I think I appreciate your take on it the most.

The fact that a blog is private is one thing, but when laws are broken, First Amendment rights cannot supercede the rights of the oppressed, EVEN if they have commited vile crimes. The blog, in fact is PUBLIC, therefore such rights cannot be mitigated.

What the blogger did was to post sex offender information that was located in the Indiana sex offender registry, along with pictures, addresses and google-earthed photos of their houses, on his site, and made threats against the offenders. Indeed, if the same threats were made to you or to me, and our addresses were posted, we would be seeking retribution against the person, blog or not.

The bottom line is that the blogger has EVERY RIGHT to say anything in the blog that does not constitute a real threat, including names and sarcasm. The line is crossed, however, when he posts (or allows posts) of addresses and pictures of the offenders. Such vigilante justice, while appealing to the average parent such as myself in the emotional abstract, actually REDUCES community safety for our children, and doesn't do anything for the prevention of molestation IN THE FIRST PLACE....and THAT'S the ultimate irony.

No one knows why AWB is missing in Action. It's funny to me. There are lines one should never cross in dealing with folks, and AWB loved crossing them.

Some are suggesting it is the sexual predators, but veiled threats to other folks, just simply for not agreeing with AWB outlook on life.

I was surprised by FWOB in supporting AWB right to type the many outrageous things and even publishing some depictions that things bordering on pornographic. AWB was supported by many folks in his wrongdoing, which was sad, because of it spoke volumes of their toleration for hate speech.

It is one thing to think about killing a person, but when you speak or print out loud your hatred, or suggestion to others to cause harm. For one to craft plan and craft a blog and it's posting shows intent.

People failed to understand you have limited first amendment rights..you don't have the right to yell fire in a crowded theater. AWB was supported by many folks who seeks leadership or are business peopple in the larger community and that was alarming to me.

You have the right to say whatever you want about me, but you better make sure it is within the law.

Evil does it's ownself in.

Wow

I usually don't associate the word "evil" with Mr. Turkette. Evil for me implies an advanced level of intellect.

Dumb people aren't evil, they're cruel.

Ok Credo,

I promised myself not to comment on your blog...where do you come off saying that no one knows why AWB is missing in action? You have been on my blog yesterday and today. I have posted what is going on and AWB himself has commented and updated and provided links to a new blog. He is not missing in action. Every other blog that we all visit has discussed this at length and no one has said he is missing in action and there is no reason for it...

Perhaps you have valid reason to dislike AWB. That's cool. Harbor your hate. But for now, you need to take a serious look at what is going on and realize that this attack on him is an attack on all of us and our constitutional rights.

Now is the time to band together and fight for ourselves. Its much like the elections we just went through. The vote is in, the winners have been selected our voices have been heard. Now its time to unite as a country. It is also time for us "bloggers" to unite and protect our freedoms.

Tuck away your personal anger for now and stand up for what is right.

Allow me to point out a few things to you arm-chair Johnny Cochran wannabes.....

If the supreme court can't shut down neo-nazi sites, how in the #&@k do propose to shut down a site that publishes public records with opinions attached?

Hatespeech my @$*, what you have here is some pissed off misguided offenders advocates who feel what AWB does is unfair. That's fine, you can call it unfair but it most certainly is not illegal.

Quit trying to pretend you are attorneys, no one was personally threatened at all and there is basis for any legal action at all.

Funny, I don't recall the Constitutional amendment that grants all of us the right to use Typepad.

I see J.R.'s broader point, that what happened to Spiceboy could happen to any of us, but without getting to specific, let's just say that Dan has boundry issues.

Just ask Jeff Fraser

Jessica Rabbit, AWB site was down. Your site told AWB side of the story which I find hard to believe AWB or his supporters, plus the offending party has yet to speak.

So, it is a one-sided he said she said thang. I'm not worried about my first amendment right, because I remember everything I learned in kindergarten, please, thank you, excuse me and remember a dog bites.

Plus, anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law..so watch your mouth, and don't be so quick to attack

Credo -

I am not attacking. I stated the information Dan gave to me from the email explaining why his blog was shut down.

He commented himself on my blog even before you started your "missing in action rant". He posted a makeshift blog early this morning before the library was probably even open for you to check in on the latest news. That blog explained entirely what was going on with the post in question the request to have it shut down, etc. It was all there, nothing was missing in action.

Meanwhile last night while you were sleeping, a Mr. Michael Reese was busy posting on all of the blogs stating what had happened and why.

I am only trying to enlighten you to all of the facts that are right out there for all to see. All sides of the story are being told and no one is missing in action.

As usual, you absolutely baffle me with your tunnel vision.

I received a phone call early Sunday about Fort Wayne News missing in action. I told the caller that I would go to your site because AWB would need a voice, and quess what? Yep, J.R. And if AWB was not missing in action, we all probably would have been on his site rather than taking up space on R&R. (R&R forgive me for the momentary highjack)

I suggested that this was probably an antic by AWB, which so far it is, because I have yet to see an arrest or a lawsuit.

I don't know who Michael Reese is, as far as I'm concerned it could be AWB. It is hard to take this serious as a first amendment issue, from folks who has not been honest in the past, credibility.

Reese mentioned a chatroom, do we have chatrooms on any blogs? I don't think so, I can't run with these hypos, need more concrete facts and information. Thanks for responsing, but I have freedom of thoughts and it is apparent that we agree to disagrees.

Foods for thoughts, would you want your children peeking over your shoulders when you view some of the picture or comments made by AWB and that he will be reposting on his site? Your answer will settle for me once and for all, if you are about the right thing.

Is it just me, or does anyone else find it ironic that "credo" spends a lot of time in the library?

ironic compared to what?

Think nothing of it, that's what the comments are for. You're welcome here anytime, and that goes for anybody. Unlike Mr. Turkette, I don't ban people that I disagree with. I also don't erase or alter posts, unlike Dan. He's a real weasel that way.

He's a plagiarist too. I think the people who are harassing him are whackjobs as well. Just a big bunch of whackjobs.
