Oxley, 38, was charged Wednesday with misrepresenting himself as a state legislator to avoid arrest for public intoxication. Prosecutors said Oxley and a 21-year-old woman were found drunk at a downtown Indianapolis gas station early Friday.
I'll admit that my knowledge of Indiana's criminal law system is limited, and I intend to keep it that way. But wouldn't public intox carry a lesser penalty than lying about being a state legislator?

Impersonating a public official, except for a law enforcement official or a tax collector, is an "A" misdemeanor, worth $5000 and/or 1 year in the hoosegow. (IC 35-44-2-3)
Public intoxication is a "B" misdemeanor, worth $1000 and/or 180 days in stir. (IC 7.1-5-1-3)
But why should lying about being a state legislator be a crime? That's like committing prostitution for a case of potato chips. Just publicizing the fact should be punishment enough. I suppose they will soon have laws against impersonating a pedophile?
Yeah, I'd expect nothing less from a Canadian, much less a truck driver. The nice thing about Dennie's antics is it will now make it much easier to attack Jill Long-Thompson and the state dem's on their choice for LT Gov.
It's a crime Delos. Lying about being a legislator can be used to keep you out of jail when if fact you should be there, as in this case. I hope they toss his ass in the the maximum, which will hopefully be a while since he's now violated his probation for drunk driving.
